Van Nistelrooy: Van Persie is not a goal scorer

ruudFormer Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy says Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie is not a natural goal scorer compared with previous Dutch compatriots. However the former Red Devil does label the Gunner a “great player.”

Van Persie, speaking on Dutch television was speaking about the difficulties surrounding leading the line for the Dutch national team. Van Persie was a key figure in Holland’s route to the World Cup Final in South Africa with the Oranje being beaten in the final by Spain.

Van Nistelrooy who gained a re-call to the Dutch national side following Van Persie’s injury is currently in good form for German Bundelsiga side Hamburg and still believes he has something to offer the national set-up.

    The former Red Devil said:

“Robin said on television how difficult it was for a striker of the Oranje. He was so honest about it. I knew exactly how he felt.”

“Van Persie does not have this in his blood. And so you see that he has no real goal-getter … but a great player.”

The 33-year-old former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker is also delighted to have gained a re-call to the Oranje squad for the European Championship qualifiers:

“I’m really glad I’m back,” said Van Nistelrooy.

“Of course I would have preferred a World Cup final over San Marino, but I’m really pleased with this opportunity.

“I see this as a bonus.”

“I now enjoy every moment while it lasts,” he added.

“But if I stay fit, to maintain the level and have the chance to get to the championship, that would obviously be great.

“I see this as a delicious reward for two years after injuries.”

“It was harder to leave Manchester United. That was my club”

Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy has admitted his decision to leave Real Madrid last January was a far easier one than having to leave Old Trafford in 2006.

The once prolific Premier League marksman reveals regret at the manner of his departure from Manchester United, and in particular the very public falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson that resulted in him leaving the Red Devils to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2006.

Although the veteran forward, who was recently recalled to the Holland squad for their European qualifiers, enjoyed his time at the Bernabeu, the 34-year-old was far more attached to Manchester United, suggesting the Premier League side “was my club”.

The former Manchester United striker is quoted by thebusbyway.com, saying: “It was harder to leave Manchester United. That was my club, like FC Den Bosch.

“Real Madrid was different. I had a tremendous time there and a warm relationship with the fans, but Real is more business like.

“I had a reason to go and they had a reason to allow me. That’s all good.

“With Manchester, I had that thing with Sir Alex Ferguson and that hurt. That was emotional. For him too, I suppose.

“I didn’t have that emotional layer with Real. But I look back at my period there with great joy and pride and some of my best mates were there. I count Guti, Raul and Casillas as good friends and playing with Beckham is always a thrill.”

Ruud is back where he belongs!!!!

Striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been called up to replace injured Robin van Persie in the squad for Holland’s opening Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Arsenal forward Van Persie sustained an ankle injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Blackburn and is likely to be sidelined for ‘at least a few weeks’, according to the Dutch Football Association.

Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has summoned former Manchester United man Van Nistelrooy to step in for Van Persie as the Oranje open their qualifying campaign.

Hamburg forward Van Nistelrooy returns to the Holland fold for the first time in two years having last featured for his country during the 2008 European Championship.

The 34-year-old, who has also played for Real Madrid, has netted three goals in the Bundesliga so far this season.

An Oranje veteran having scored 33 goals in 64 appearances for his country, Van Nistelrooy is expected to join the Netherlands’ training camp on Tuesday.

World Cup runners-up Holland take on Group E qualifiers San Marino in Serravalle on Friday before facing Finland in Rotterdam four days later.

Van Nistrlerooy: We must stay focused

Ruud van Nistelrooy has urged his Hamburg team-mates to keep calm after they secured a third straight Bundesliga win yesterday.

After scoring a hat-trick in the first round of the DFB-Pokal and two goals to down Schalke last weekend, the Dutch striker set his side on the way to a 3-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt to already put three points between them and pre-season title favourites Bayern Munich.

“This is obviously a dream start,” he said afterwards. “You can always dream, but you have also got to try to live the dream. I hope that we can achieve something this year.”
This is obviously a dream start. You can always dream, but you have also got to try to live the dream. I hope that we can achieve something this year.

Nevertheless, the former FC Den Bosch, Psv, Manchester United and Real Madrid forward is experienced enough to know there is still plenty of time for things to go wrong.

“We have got to keep calm,” he said. “It is great that we have won again, but we have only played two (league) games. We have just got to remain relaxed, carry on working hard and concentrate on the next game and then we can be successful.”

After the two-week break for internationals, Hamburg host Nurnberg at the HSV-Arena. Due to their failure to qualify for Europe last season, they will then have a full week to prepare for the eagerly-anticipated city derby with St Pauli on 18 September.

    NO LET-UP FROM VAN NISTELROOY

Ruud van Nistelrooy has scored five goals in the first two games of the season but the Hamburg striker is not resting on his laurels and is looking to add to his tally against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

The Dutch striker, who arrived in northern Germany from Real Madrid midway through last season, grabbed a hat-trick in the first round of the DFB-Pokal and followed that up with both goals in a 2-1 win over Schalke last weekend.

However, he is not looking back on what he has already achieved but rather ahead to what he can still do to make this a successful season both personally and for the club he says already has a prominent place in his heart.

“I will never forget those moments against Schalke, but I cannot spend a whole week reminiscing on them,” he said on the hsv.de website.

“I am now concentrating on Frankfurt.

“Hamburg have given new life to my career and I am very grateful for that. I was accepted very well from the very beginning and have long felt that I am at home here.”

Van Nistelrooy ensured a perfect debut in the Bundesliga for new Hamburg coach Armin Veh, who should stick with the same 11 players against Frankfurt.
